How To Make Scented Candles That Are Unsurpassed
Candles are so popular today that in the USA alone sales of them are sales of two billion dollars yearly and scented candles make up a lot of those sales. That does not count all the things that go with candles. But many people just buy the supplies and make their own candles with aromatic scents these days.
Candles provide such a wonderful ambience to any room, but when you add scents to the candles then you have the rooms aromatic too. There are many different aromas to choose from today to make scented candles with. You can also find the scents in different forms too. Make sure you get an oil-based one, because it will mix throughout the candle that way instead of sinking to the bottom.
The scents come in solid wax chips, liquid, or even natural herbs. Just choose the aroma that suits you and your house best. How you add the scent is similar, no matter which wax you use. There are several different types of wax that are normally used.
Soy wax, beeswax, and paraffin all get melted to a temperature to a temperature of 175 degrees Fahrenheit. The gel wax needs to be heated to about 200 degrees Fahrenheit. After whichever the wax you use is melted totally place 1 ounce of the scent you chose for each pound of wax you have. Mix well before pouring the wax into your prepared mold that has the wick in it.
By placing the scents in at this time there is little or no evaporation. This keeps the scents at the strength you desire. Any more than this amount though and the candle won't harden right as it cools. So only add the recommended amounts of scents when making the candles.
The aromas you choose may depend on what you are using the scented candles for. If you are just using them to mask odors in your house, or give your house a special scent, then many of the aromas will work.
Certain scents are also associated with holidays such as Christmas. Bayberry and cinnamon are two examples of ones you could make on your own. Of course, you could combine certain scents to come up with a unique aroma too. Just make sure the scents complement each other.
But if you are using them for aromatherapy, which is quite popular today, then you will need to concentrate on the herbal scents. Each herb has its own function as far as this goes. One example of this is lavender for relaxation. Smelling the lavender scent is supposed to cause your body to relax and release stress.
Don't forget that the scented candles can make wonderful gifts too, along with the other uses mentioned here. See how easy it is to make a one of these candles? Just one more step added on to the regular candle-making process. So next time you are making a candle remember to add some aroma to it, this will make your creation extra special.
